Gandhi stands for non-violence which is Universal. The statue recognises non-violence and the principles behind it, not just the person.

By minimising Gandhi to a single mortal ordinary man, we miss the message.

You know Why because in India People in India remove and damage statues of their own Great People.

Gandhi was an ordinary man, he always wished to be recognized like that, This is the greatness of Gandhi.

If you really respect him remove his statues from Planet Earth, He never wanted that.

Gandhi’s greatness lies in his ability to change himself. He was deliberately taught anti-black racism due to British colonial education and believed it. However as soon as he saw he was completely wrong, he changed publicly. Indian writers like Rama Lakshmi, (WashPost) as usual do a terrible job of writing the truth and love to vilify even really great humans: if they are Indian. Gandhi fought for Africans as soon as he realised what he had been taught and why: to stop Indians and blacks from working against the Empire. In colonized Africa, any Indian marrying a black could not live in designated areas, their kids could not go to school as per UK’s rules.

Greatness lies not in being born perfect but in achieving it, admitting mistakes publicly which he did humbly and spent the rest of his life in helping everyone he could. The British, unlike other colonizers elsewhere, were allowed to leave peacefully thanks to principled people like him. Elsewhere colonizers were massacred. Caste also has usually been flexible, please do not believe British writing, intended to degrade the colonized. Many loved Hindu scriptures are written by writers from the lowest caste, e.g. the Ramayan. Many Indian deities, kings, goddesses are black.

If interested, read the missionary CF Andrews and others who knew Gandhi well, they considered his behaviour almost Christ-like. Einstein said, for years to come, no one will believe such a great human existed.

May I humbly suggest you really read about him, before reacting to shallow silly journalists, who write anything as long as they get paid. Please do not react from ignorance.

Sincerely
