Citi FM on Saturday, September 17 honoured the best graduating student in broadcast journalism at the Ghana Institute of Journalism (GIJ).
Ms. Eugenia Kumi Akorfa came out tops of her class for the 2015/2016 academic year. She was adjudged the best student in print journalism, best student broadcast journalism and was as well named the overall best student at the Ghana Institute of Journalism.
For her prize, she was presented with a brand new laptop and an audio recorder from Citi FM. She also walked away with a 32-inch television set, a printer, a laptop, a set of books and a certificate of honour.
An excited Eugenia told Citi News her feat is a result of “hard work, dedication, commitment and the grace of God.”
She challenged continuing students of the school to strive for the best in all their endeavours.
She also expressed appreciation to Citi FM for recognizing her efforts and honoring her.
Ms. Akorfa further urged the management and staff of Citi FM to continue being Ghana’s ultimate source of relevant radio content and the most engaging media house in Ghana.
Explaining the rationale behind the recognition, Human Resource Manager of Citi FM, Mrs. Jennifer Anane Nsiah said the kind gesture is a contribution towards the training of professional journalists who will abide by the ethics of the profession.
“We know how critical it is to get professionals doing what we do at Citi FM so we thought we could support these professionals with the basic tools like a laptop and voice recorder to support them as they start their careers.”
She intimated that the station expects graduates of the journalism institute to abide by the ethics of the profession to help in building a more vibrant and thriving democracy in Ghana.
A total of 690 students graduated with diplomas and degrees from the Ghana Institute of Journalism this year. 20 students obtained first class honours while 241 obtained second class upper division with 170 graduating at second class lower division. 29 students obtained third class degrees.
