Some members of Rotaract Clubs in the West Africa sub region on Saturday embarked on a cycling trip in the Ho Municipality to advocate for a peaceful general elections in Ghana.
The trip which started in the early hours of the morning saw Rotaract members from Togo, Benin and Ghana cycling through the principal streets of Ho.
The event, christened “A Ride for Peace” was a joint program of the Rotaract Club of Ho (RoCH), Rotaract Club of Lome and Rotaract Club of Lome-Zenith with support from the Leo Club of Ho; the Junior Lion Club.
Speaking to Citi News, the President of RoCH Simon Fafali Awumey said the event forms part of their objectives of keeping the youth engaged in peaceful ventures in the run up to the elections in Ghana.
“We don’t want any youth to engage in any violence. That’s why we are organizing these events so that we can engage the youth; so they would not involve in any violence before, during and after the elections” he said.
The group, numbering about hundred later visited the Children’s ward of the Ho Municipal Hospital where they interacted with inmates and donated hampers containing assorted items to the children on admissions.
Rotaract Clubs are Youth Rotary Clubs open to young professionals and students from age 18 to 30 years who are committed to taking decisions for positive change in the society.
The club would later hold its Presidential Ball and Fundraising Dinner at the GNAT Hall in Ho from July 2016 to June 2017 to raise funds for their projects.
