Ghana’s only judoka in the ongoing Rio 2016 Olympic Games, Szandra Dzogedi, has spoken out on how gutted she is after losing to Brazil’s Mariana Silva in the Round of 32 of the women’s 63kg event on Tuesday.
Dzogedi, Hungarian by birth but she chose to compete for Ghana and she made it to the Games after qualifying in May this year.
However, her first Olympic challenge was ended by home favourite Silva who won by 100 points to 0 and after the match, Dzogedi said to Erasmus Kwaw of the Ghana Olympic Committee that she was very disappointed at how she lost the tie.
“We had a game plan and it was really working but in judo, a match can be lost in a split second. In the tournament, we have seen top judokas who lost in seconds.
That is how thin the difference is between falling, having your arm ripped and getting choked like I did.
Judo is a contact sport but it is not just about having strength because I felt strong and that is why I am gutted because I had a lot to give on the mat. It is not the loss but it is how I lost”
