Traders at Makola in Accra are still doing business close to a construction site despite being instructed to leave the area.
The Accra Metropolitan Assembly mayor, Alfred Okoe Vanderpuije, gave the order after a mother of two, who was selling by the roadside was killed by a falling rail at the construction site.
The rail was said to have been accidentally dropped by one of the workers.
The AMA subsequently closed down the site and directed the contractor to review security measures there in order to continue work on the project.
It was subsequently re-opened after some safety measures were put in place. However, the traders were ordered not to sell around the construction site.
But two months after the incident happened, full trading activities have commenced around the construction site.
When Citi News visited the area, traders were busily selling their wares while construction works were ongoing.
