The Electoral Commission (EC) has extended by a day the period for the continuous registration owing to challenges encountered on the first day of the exercise last Friday, August 19.
Some of these challenges included power cuts, poor network and the break down of machines among others leading to the registration of fewer prospective first time voters at numerous centers.

Some areas notable for the challenges encountered included Ga East in the Greater Accra Region, Pru in the Brong Ahafo Region, New Edubiase in the Ashanti Region, and in Juaboso and Bia, both in the Western Region, various degrees of challenges were recorded.
Prospective registrants who spoke to Citi News from the Madina Office of the EC said they spent the whole day in a queue and yet, were turned away without being registered.
EC apologises for inconvenience
But the EC, following the reports of the challenges, has assured it will be working to address the grievances of prospective voters.
According to Mr. Dzakpasu, “We have addressed the power issue by making sure most of the district offices get standby generators and we are working on the network challenges before Friday.”
“We apologise to the people to the inconvenience that they went through and we hope come Friday, all these challenges will be addressed. They will have their share, we will capture them and those who will be left will be cleared the next day,” he added.
