The Member of Parliament for the Effutu Constituency, Alexander Afenyo Markin, has lauded the Electoral Commission’s decision to resume the re-registration of deleted NHIS registrants.
Mr Afenyo Markin earlier petitioned the Commission to extend the exercise because it been marred by some challenges but the commission declined all calls for extension.
However, after an Inter Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) meeting yesterday, the commission decided to give an extra week for deleted NHIS registrants who were unable to reregister to go through the process.
“It’s a confirmation of the EC’s new attitude of engaging stakeholders and it’s very positive. It’s good for democracy and let me commend them highly for that decision”
In an interview with Citi News, Mr. Afenyo Markin called on the commission to ensure it provides adequate resources and logistics to cover the exercise nationwide.
“What I look forward to seeing in this re-registration extension is for them to deal with all logistical challenges because it will come to nothing if eight days will still have a problem”.
The Effutu Legislator also called on the EC to give his constituency priority since majority of the affected persons were from there.
“They should look at the Effutu situation as compared to another place where they have just about two hundred affected people or hundred affected people. We are talking about three thousand and six in Effutu. It is deserving of a special attention.”
