The 26-year-old woman who allegedly poured acid on her boyfriend, Esther Enyonam Pekyi, has been charged.
She was charged with attempted murder but the Attorney General today [ Thursday], revised it to causing harm using an offensive weapon.
Last year, Police in Accra arrested Esther who had been on the run for months. This was after Citi News provided the Police with intelligence leading to her arrest.
Esther allegedly poured the chemical on her boyfriend, Eric Ohemeng, a student of the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA), after a disagreement between the two.
Eric, with support from Citi FM and GIMPA, survived the near-death incident after series of surgeries.
His right eye and genitals were affected by the incident.
He earlier told the Citi Breakfast Show Host, Bernard Avle, that he needs the surgery so he could feel normal again.
He said he had to stay indoors for two months since he left the Hospital.
“I don’t go out; for the past two months that I left the hospital, I have not gone out.”
A group of seven students from GIMPA had to start a “Save Eric Ohemeng” campaign to raise money for his surgery which was carried out in Germany due to the absence of the necessary equipment to do it locally.
