The Greater Accra Regional Treasurer of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nii Kotey Kotei, has died after a short illness.
Reports say Nii Kotey Kotei died [Monday] morning at the 37 Military Hospital, after he had gone there for treatment.
The Deputy Greater Regional Secretary of the NPP, Adams Saabo Abdul Rahman, confirmed Mr. Kotei’s death to Citi News.
He described his demise as a “very big blow to the party”.
He narrated that, “I called Nii’s wife and she said it is true that he has passed on.”
According to her, he complained of short illness last [Sunday] night and he was rushed to 37 military hospital. “This morning, they went to check on his health only to be told that he has passed on,” Mr. Rahman added.
The late Nii Kotey Kotei was known to be an active member of the NPP in the region, and had held a number of positions over the course of his involvement with the party.
Mr. Kotei was once the Chairman of the Kanda electoral area in the Ayawaso East for the NPP. He rose to become the treasurer of Ayawaso East constituency and then became the Financial Secretary of the Greater Accra region before his latest position as the Regional Treasurer.
Following the news of his death, Mr. Rahman noted that “executives of the region are yet to sit down and take a definite position as to how to go about the whole thing.”
