Some journalists were on Tuesday attacked by supporters of the three Montie FM panelists who had been summoned to the Supreme Court for allegedly threatening to kill judges over their handling of the suit on the credibility of the voters’ register.
The reporters, who had gathered outside the building to take photos and videos of the defendants as they exited the building, were accosted by the supporters of the three.
Hundreds of supporters of the three thronged the packed court court to show solidarity , and to witness the proceedings.
The supporters of the three gentlemen attacked some journalists because according to them, the journalists wanted to take pictures and videos of the people they [supporters] described as heroes,” an eyewitness said.
Police outnumbered
The eyewitness reported that, although there was police presence at the Supreme Court, they were greatly outnumbered and struggled to deal with the crowd which was growing increasingly agitated.
Some journalists had to be shepherded through the crowd who were hurling insults at them.
Case adjourned
The Supreme Court adjourned the contempt case against owners of Montie FM, the host of the programme, and the the two panelists who had allegedly threatened to kill the judges, to July 18, 2016.
The apex court justices were displeased with the failure of all the owners of the station to appear before them, although they were represented by one Edward Addo, claiming to be one of the owners.
Responding to the concerns of the Justices, Lawyer for the owners, Nana Ato Dadzie, explained that the owners of the station, Network Broadcasting Limited, and all the directors apart from Mr. Edward Addo, were all out of the country.
