A 77th minute goal from Yahaya Mohammed helped Aduana Stars beat Medeama 1-0 at the Tarkwa T and A Park in an outstanding Ghana Premier League fixture.
The result was the first loss for the Yellow and Mauves who had gone 9 home matches without a loss. The tie had to be played because of Medeama’s involvement in the CAF Confederations Cup.
Medeama were hoping to build on the 3-1 win over Young Africans in the Confederations Cup on Wednesday and they almost did when they were handed a penalty in the first half.
However, attacking midfielder Kwesi Donsu missed the kick.
With 13 minutes left on the clock, Yahaya Mohammed got the winner to give Aduana Stars all three points to push them up to 37 points. Medeama remain on 33 points but they have two matches in hand.
The goal was Mohammed’s 13th of the season and it placed him on top of the scorers chart together with Latif Blessing of Liberty Professionals.
Medeama will play Inter Allies (away), Hasaacas (home), Bechem United (away), and Berekum Chelsea (home) in their next four league matches.
Aduana Stars will play Hasaacas (away), Berekum Chelsea (home), Asante Kotoko (away) and AshGold (home).
