Ghana has won the 2016 African Gender Award at the just-ended Summit of the African Union in Kigali, Rwanda.
The award was given in recognition of Ghana’s performance in the advancement of the economic and social rights of women on the continent.
[contextly_sidebar id=”nsQEdHpwmnbmpEHgCVG1c1oke5GyodlB”]Ghana scored high marks in social, economic, political and civil rights to emerge winner of the award from among a list of competing countries on the continent.
The award is jointly sponsored by the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa, the African Development Bank and the African Gender Scorecard.
It measures how countries perform in areas like gender equality and women’s empowerment.
Ghana’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, Hanna Serwaa Tetteh, received the award at a ceremony on Monday July 18, on behalf of the country
