Ghana’s former President John Agyekum Kufuor has verified his name on the country’s voters’ register, in the Electoral Commission’s ongoing provisional exhibition of the voters’ register.
Although the former President, who will be 78 in December 2016, has voted for many years, he found it necessary to respond to that civic responsibility.
Exhibition exercises are largely not hugely patronized since persons who have voted for several years assume that their names would automatically be in the register, and therefore do not see the need to check.
[contextly_sidebar id=”VKfkSvSrD4J3g9nRBsj0vDfO1KTBDnlg”]Mr. Kufour cross-checked his name on the register on Friday July 22, at an exhibition centre in the Ayawaso West Wuogon Constituency of the Greater Accra Region, where he votes.
The exhibition exercise which commenced on Monday July 18 and ends on August 7, 2016.
It seeks to enable all voters to check their names in the register, and also help to delete unwanted names on the electoral roll.
The exhibition exercise is taking place in 29,000 polling stations across the country. This year’s exhibition is lasting for 21 days instead of the usual 14 days.
According to the Electoral Commission, although patronage of the exercise is low, about one million potential voters verified their names in three days of commencement.
