The staff and faculty of the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA) are calling for the immediate dissolution of their governing council.
This follows a vote of no confidence passed against the leadership of the council.
The staff members have therefore petitioned the President John Mahama to cause the immediate dissolution of the council to ensure the smooth running of the school.
[contextly_sidebar id=”o4kG08V8sXhLYPdYihssuKqF0TkgNElI”]Speaking to Citi News, President of the GIMPA Senior staff Association, Dr. Stanley Coffie accused the current leadership chaired by Dr. Christina Amoako-Nuama of mismanaging the institution a situation they bemoaned.
He also accused the council of being unable to appoint a registrar for close to seven years.
“The council’s decision on the appointment of the registrar is unacceptable. After going through the whole process and coming out with a successful candidate they then said the candidate is not outstanding and then changed their mind following initial approval of the candidate and we think this is not acceptable. This is not the first the council has not been able to appoint a substantive candidate to hold the registrar position for the last seven years. We think it is deliberate, it doesn’t help the school and we want to see an end to that deception,” he added.
“I’m not sure what their motive is but going by history, the likelihood is that they may have the preferred candidate who they would want to put in the position to act, because after all some people have been acting for the last five to six years and I suspect, that is the line of approach they want to take and therefore they have to make this candidate unacceptable in order to be able to pursue that line of action. Because you are asking the same individual you don’t think is good enough to take the position to act, for how long we don’t know. I think it’s time for them to look for the interest of GIMPA and not their interest.”
Dr. Coffie also said “after seven years I think they are tired, so if they are tired and they cannot make an appointment, and they haven’t been able to make a registrar appointment in that time, I don’t think they can do it in the six months left for them.”
The staff also accused the council of committing GIMPA to purchase a 1000-acre land at Nsawam under unfavorable terms.
They also claimed that that chairperson of the council, cancelled several programs of the school including the GIMPA law school moot court in 2016 and also dissolved the business school advisory board soon after it was outdoored.
They have further petitioned the president to immediately dissolve the council to pave way for a new council that will help solve the challenges of GIMPA and help accomplish its socio-economic development role in Ghana.
“They better move on so the institution can find an alternative council that can make decisions that can help the institution,” Dr. Coffie added.
