The Managing Director of the Ghana Airport Company Limited, Charles Asare, says the Company is poised to develop the Airport City into an ‘aerotropolis’ which would provide a one stop shop for travelers and the public.
According to him, the Ghana Airport Company has already “registered the trade name Airport City as a trade mark to be developed into a major brand in the Ghanaian real estate industry.
“This brand will represent an exclusive business and residential enclave within the airport communities with first class iconic buildings, good security and infrastructure, and the address of choice for business”.
According to Mr. Charles Asare, the concept will be replicated in the various locations within the country.
He was speaking at the official launch of the Airport City Association (ACA) in Accra on Friday.
The Association, constituted by property owners and businesses within the Airport City Enclave, is aimed at creating a common platform with high security protocols where information is shared.
The Association is also to market Airport City Accra, and provide a network of building owners and tenants.
ACA President, Salah Kalmoni, told journalists the Association allows them to be fairly represented in decisions and projects that affect the Accra Airport City.
“Ghana Airport Authority was collecting these property rates but there was a little bit of resistance. Now that ACA has taken on this mandate it is transparent and more representative. Now we are going to collect the property rate and manage it ourselves with Ghana Airport Authority being our partners”.
He said the Association has taken sufficient measures to guard against any unlikely terrorist attacks.
“We are concerned about threats of terrorists but we are working closely with National Security and the police because that one is a very specialized region.”
