Embattled workers of the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC), who were signatories to a document declaring the GBC board persona non grata, are set to be punished by the cooperation’s management, a memo sighted by Citi News has indicated.
In the memo, the Acting Director General of the state broadcaster indicated that, the actions of the workers were a clear violation of the cooperation`s collective agreement hence appropriate procedures will be invoked to ensure sanity at the corporation.
[contextly_sidebar id=”ZsKq1YWk90APqyXQb0TiDhqEM0uF24Hm”]“GBC management considers the whole write up as misconduct on the part of the signatories to the notice and appropriate procedures will be invoked to ensure sanity within the corporation’s governance structure,” the memo stated.
The memo also noted that, the “the union does not have the mandate to declare the board persona non grata. Constitutionally, the National Media Commission (NMC), is the statutory body mandated to appoint and dissolve the GBC board.”
“Any grievance about the work or conduct of the board should be reported to the NMC for redress,” the memo added.
NMC clears GBC of any wrongdoing
The GBC workers union had written to the National Media Commission (NMC) to dissolve their board after accusing it of “micromanaging the affairs of GBC.”
This was after the workers last Wednesday locked their board members out of the corporation’s premises following a resolution that was passed by the union barring members of the GBC board, chaired by Richard Kwame Asante, from entering the premises.
But the NMC cleared the governing board of the state broadcaster of any wrongdoing saying those allegations were unfounded.
NMC betrayed us – GBC workers
The workers GBC also accused the NMC of betraying them by lodging a complaint with the Police in relation to their prohibition of the GBC board members from entering the premises.
They further accused the commission of siding with the GBC board to run the state corporation down.
