SIC Life Savings and Loans Company Limited, has provided classroom furniture and 5,000 exercise books to 25 basic schools in the Upper East Region.
The selected beneficiaries include Boya, Boya Kpalsako, Sakoti, Soliga, Kongo, Pelungu and Gane basic schools located in the Bawku West, Nabdam and Talensi districts.
The company supplied 150 dual desks to the Kpalsako Boya primary school in the Bawku West District where pupils sat on the bare floor to write.
The distribution exercise was supervised by the company’s Board Chairman, Aaron Issa Anafure.
Managing Director of the company, Richard Appietu, and the Member of Parliament for the Zebila Constituency, Hon. Cletus Avoka, witnessed the handing over ceremony of the 150 dual desks to the Kpalsako Boya primary school.
Mr. Appietu said the gesture which formed part of the company’s Corporate Social Responsibility was in response to a request by authorities of the three district assemblies for educational assistance.
He said the company considered education as the panacea to boost the nation’s human resource, hence the donation.
“Education is of paramount importance to SIC Life Savings and Loans as educated citizenry have the potential to fend for themselves and not become a burden on their parents and communities. With good education, one can be assured of a comfortable life.”
Mr. Appietu added, “The Company will always be available to offer any other future assistance to needy schools to increase enrolment.”
He said the company is poised to augment government’s efforts aimed at improving students’ performance at the basic level.
“Education is one of our major priorities as a corporate body. Once children have the right foundation, they develop love for school and are unlikely to drop out of school at teenage. Children should therefore not be denied this opportunity and should rather be encouraged to stay in the classroom,” Mr. Appietu underscored.
The company promised to renovate the Boya primary school which has its roof ripped off by a rainstorm.
The Member of Parliament for the Zebila Constituency, Hon. Cletus Avoka on behalf of the beneficiary commended SIC Life Savings and Loans Company Limited for the support.
He entreated other corporate bodies to emulate the company’s outstanding assistance.
Hon. Avoka advised the pupils to aspire to become the nation’s future leaders. Head teachers and District Chief Executives of the beneficiary schools commended the company for the support.
They however called for an extension of the support to other deprived communities.
