The Police in a targeted swoop arrested 56 people believed to be engaged in robbery, drug peddling and other criminal activities in and around Dansoman in Accra.
The police also retrieved machetes, and a substance believed to be Indian hemp, from the suspects.
[contextly_sidebar id=”nrzhMKs2wCOC7TRDlIOlHvohdFl5zNlg”]The Dansoman Divisional Police Commander, ACP Antwi Tabi, explained that the areas swept by the police are known to be hubs of criminal activity.
“Areas where there are known to be drug dealing bases, this is where we suspected that criminals normally go and sit down and hide and smoke and from there they go and commit such nefarious activities.”
He noted that the crime situation in Dansoman was getting out of hand in recent times and that, for example, “not a single day passes that you will not hear about robbery perpetrated by people who ride on motorbikes.”
The police thus decided that anybody found to be in such areas would face arrests because in their view, law abiding citizens had no business in such areas.
ACP Antwi Tabi said: “so anybody we see in such areas, we arrest you… if you are a law abiding citizen, what do you go and do at such a place?”
