A group calling itself Odododiodoo Youth for Accountability (OYA), is demanding an apology from the Member of Parliament for the area, Nii Lantey Vanderpuye, for allegedly describing Old Fadama as an area that breeds criminals.
The group claims the MP, during an event organized by Afri-One Youth in Accra three months ago, described Old Fadama as a community that produces criminals.
Speaking to Citi News on the side-lines of a press conference on Monday at Old Fadama, Convener of the group, Samuel Malu, said drastic action will be taken against the Member of Parliament if he fails to apologize.
Mr. Malu noted that Mr. Vanderpuye had attributed the killing of the MP from Abuakwa North, Joseph Boakye Danquah-Adu, as being carried out someone from Old Fadama and “it simply means he is saying we are the criminals here. He is confirming it by using that example.”
“We want to let him know that Old Fadama as he is describing is not a criminal zone because we know very well that every house, there is a ‘Mensah’ [Meaning a recalcitrant]. Old Fadama may have one or two people who are recalcitrant, but that does not make the whole community bad,” he stated.
The group warned they will vote out the MP if he persists in painting the community black.
“We want to put him right that we are not criminals; and if he claims we are criminals, we will show him in the general elections on November 7,” Mr. Malu threatened.
According to them, the MP allegedly made the comment in an interview with an international media platform in March, 2016.
