The All People’s Congress (APC) has opened nominations for aspiring parliamentary aspirants with the forms going for GHc 200.
The party, which recently elected Hassan Ayariga as flagbearer for the November polls, is obligated under its constitution to provide an opportunity for willing members to file and contest for a place in parliament on the ticket of the party.
The General Secretary of the party, Razak Kojo Opoku, who spoke to Citi News, explained that the party opened parliamentary nominations on Tuesday, “so that those who aspire to go to parliament, and they desire to contest on the ticket of the APC, they can pick a form so that the party will look at it and also sanction them, so that when the Electoral Commission opens their nominations, they can file in the name of APC.”
Filing fee free for youth, women, disabled
Mr. Opoku also revealed that, the cost of the form will be GHc 200 however, “the filing is free for the youth, women and disabled who have parliamentary ambitions.”
“We took that decision because APC is a party for the youth and we want the youth to be empowered and also get the opportunity to contribute to national development.”
Members of the APC in June, officially acclaimed the party’s founder, Hassan Ayariga, as the party’s flagbearer for the 2016 general elections, during the party’s national delegates’ congress at the International Conference Centre in Accra.
Hassan Ayariga broke away from the Peoples National Congress (PNC), after he lost the party’s flagbearership contest to Dr. Edward Mahama.
The APC, founded in late December 2o15, received its provisional certificate of registration from the EC in February, 2016.
