Ivor Kobina Greenstreet, Flagbearer of the Convention People’s party (CPP), on Tuesday June 29, took his turn at the Institute of Economic Affairs’ [IEA] Evening Encounters Series.
He took his time to explain to Ghanains his vision for the nation, should he be elected President in the November general elections.
Mr. Greenstreet touched on most sectors of the economy including; education, health, housing, corruption among others.
Apart from encouraging Ghanaians to vote for him, he also used the opportunity to lambaste the incumbent administration over what he described as an ailing economy.
Education:
In education, Mr. Greenstreet said a CPP government will ensure that ICT is embedded in the system to make Ghana’s education sector “21st century relevant.”
“We will ensure that our education is changed to reflect all fields of our economy. Our vision of education is ICT learning based,” he said, adding that rural communities will not be left out in the transformation.
Health:
The flagbearer noted that, in health, a CPP government will support the National Health Insurance Scheme to be much more effective than it is now
He also said they will desist from allowing politicians to meddle in affairs of the NHIS adding that, they will allow only professionals to take charge of the field.
“We will support the NHIS. We shall ensure that politicians don’t meddle in NHIS…We need health professionals managing the scheme and finance professionals managing the funds.”
Mr. Greenstreet also said a CPP government will support doctors to do post graduate studies to ensure that they serve the nation when they are done.
“Doctors don’t have to pay for their post graduate studies. We will make it free,” he added.
Affordable housing:
The CPP flagbearer also said a CPP government they will embark on a proper affordable housing scheme and bring the Kaneshie and Effiakuma estates which used to be active in housing Ghanaians in the past.
