Following the appointment of President John Mahama as the Co-Chair of 16 Eminent Advocates by the UN Secretary General Banki-Moon to assist in the campaign to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and his subsequent launch of the SDGs in Ghana, the SDGs would take centre stage at the maiden edition of the Impact Africa Summit: Ghana to be hosted in Accra on July 7, 2016.
The SDGs adopted by world leaders in September 2015 provide a powerful aspiration for improving all countries by laying out where we collectively need to go and how to get there with its ambitious set of 17 goals and related targets to address the most important economic, social, environmental and governance challenges of our time.
Having an integrated approach to supporting progress across the SDGs is crucial to achieving the goals by 2030. The Impact Africa Summit would thus bring together government officials, the business community, diplomats, civil society, political parties and the media to discuss the implementation of the SDGS in Ghana as well as prospects of the SDGs for the African continent and for that matter Ghana.
The SDGs also brings with it; a newly relevant framework to guide the strategic priorities and efforts of businesses towards the society which in turn breeds a huge opportunity to drive sustainable business. The Impact Africa summit would therefore spearhead a panel discussion the subject on “Businesses, Government and Ghana’s Sustainable Development Goals”.
This would set in motion discussions to roll out specific benchmarks and targets as well as different means necessary to fill critical gaps, and generate workable ideas for collaborations and partnerships between local and international businesses in Ghana and the Government for action on sustainable development.
The summit would further host an “expert presentation” on the prospects of the SDGS for the continent with a main address on the subject “Transforming the Future of Africa: SDGs”.
The day would also witness the celebration and awarding of some personalities of the land who have created an impact in the country in the some selected fields including “Leadership & Governance, Education, Media and Communications, Health, as well as Business and Entrepreneurship”.
The Impact Africa Summit is an initiative of Diplomatic Call, in collaboration with the Diplomatic Council, EnergyNet UK, International Perspective and GUBA UK.
