The National Democratic Congress’ (NDC) Parliamentary Candidate for the Gomoa West Constituency, Sam Kwesi Fletcher, blatantly flouted a Ghana Education Service (GES) regulation that bars political party activities in schools except for tertiary institutions, to campaign at the Gomoa Senior Technical School (G.S.T.S.).
Mr. Fletcher, who was invited to speak at the school’s 25th anniversary at Gomoa Dewurampong in the Central Region, used the platform for campaigning with barely six months to the election in November.
Mr. Fletcher, a new entrant into politics who speaks for the Volta River Authority (VRA), further asked the students to vote for him and his presidential candidate in the impending general elections.
“This school was built by the first NDC administration, so vote for me to become the Member of Parliament for this constituency and I will help change diametrically the face of G.S.T.S. Do not also forget to vote for my presidential Candidate President John Dramani Mahama who is developing your school.”
Donation of customized ‘NDC
Mr. Fletcher also donated 2,000 assorted books to the school in order to boost academic work.
The books donated were customized using the schools’ crest with NDC colors. It included jotters, exercised books and research documents at the cost of Gh6, 000 cedis.
Mr. Fletcher said, “I was born here, my family members attended this school and that is my widow’s mite contribution to encourage the students to study hard.”
When quizzed on the predominant case of teenage pregnancy and how it could be curbed the parliamentary hopeful said the fast-rising canker in the constituency requires collective to fight it.
“Adults should not engage teenagers in sex, and the media both print and electronic should give maximum attention to teenage pregnancy education, and stakeholders in the community must prioritize this in order to curb teenage pregnancy’’.
Sam Kwesi Fletcher of NDC will be fiercely contesting the NPP’s lawyer Alex Kojo Kom Abban, who is a corporate solicitor at the Ghana Stock Exchange.
