Year in, year out, the question of who will host the most prestigious event in Ghana, Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA) comes up and patrons are always left to do the guessing game till the night of the event.
But this year, the names of the hosts have been revealed nine clear days to the event and we know who will be commanding the stage on music’s biggest night. They are Chris Attoh, Naa Ashorkor and DJ Black.
Chris Attoh is not new to hosting major events in Ghana having hosted the VGMA three times already. He is known for his eloquence and stage presence as well as his good looks.
Very little has been seen of Chris in Ghana in recent times and hosting the VGMA this year has been touted as an appropriate welcome back for him.
DJ Black has been holding it down for years and providing patrons with good music at the VGMA. You can never go wrong when “Mr. Black” is on the turntables.
In fact organisers of the event, Charterhouse, learnt this the hard way when they failed to employ his services in 2014. It was obvious to everyone watching the VGMAs that there was something missing. The absence of the “black factor,” took the shine out of the event.
Naa Ashorkor is the only “newbie” on the VGMA stage this year but she is not new to hosting big events either. In 2014 she hosted the Africa Movie Academy Awards in Nigeria and has been a very familiar face at the Miss Malaika Ghana finals.
She is a woman of many talents—an actress, entrepreneur, radio and TV personality. Many trust that Naa’s charming, eloquence and warm personality will be just right for the VGMA.
The 2016 VGMA, sponsored by Vodafone, supported by Star Beer, Mentos, CAPP (Pisen), Furniture City, Airport View Hotel, Kempinski Hotel and powered by Charterhouse comes off on Saturday, May, 2016 at the Accra International Conference Center.
