The Inspector General of Police, John Kudalor has expressed worry about the seeming lack of urgency the Attorney General`s Department attaches to cases forwarded to it.
He said the trend slows down the dispensation of justice.
In an interview with CitiNews, the Inspector General of Police, John Kudalor advised that immediate steps must be taken to address the situation.
[contextly_sidebar id=”a7BRbYxdDiPs0RF8hZBEzqnQlsrd2NvJ”]He said “our worry is that as policemen we want criminals to be prosecuted and kept out of the streets and dealt with as per the laws of this country but you know the Attorney General also has a special role to play.”
“Honestly even the work we are doing as prosecutors should have been done by the Attorney Generals department but we don’t have enough personnel that is why they have relegated that responsibility to us as policemen. Ours is to maintain order and to prosecute offenders, we can only do that after the advice from the Attorney Generals department.”
He lamented that after their investigations, every one of their findings are forwarded to the Attorney Generals department for advice but it usually delay.
“So if you give the results of the investigations to them, you cannot be chasing it so that you are trying to be a judge and arbiter in your own case and that defeats justice and fair play,” he noted.
