The Member of Parliament for Abetifi Constituency in the Eastern Region, Peter Wiafe Pepera, has died.
The New Patriotic Party (NPP) MP reportedly died on Saturday afternoon at the 37 Military Hospital where he was on admission.
His colleague Member of Parliament who spoke to citifmonline.com but wishes to remain anonymous confirmed his demise.
Unconfirmed reports say he suffered from a cardiac arrest. The 62-year old MP was once a minister in the National Democratic Congress (NDC) administration before joining the NPP in 2001.
He was a Ranking Member on the Trade and Industry Committee in Parliament.
The late MP celebrated his 62nd birthday on May 9, and died today, [Saturday], May 21.
He becomes the second NPP MP to have died in the Eastern Region, after Joseph Boakye Danquah-Adu, who was stabbed to death at his home in Accra in February.
In October 2015, NDC MP for Amenfi West in the Western Region John Gyetua also died at the 37 Military Hospital in Accra after a protracted illness.
