Six children drowned on River Volta on Sunday when a boat carrying them capsized.
Some eyewitnesses said the incident happened when the boat which was from Nantwekope and heading towards Yeji hit a tree stump and in the process capsized.
Confirming the incident to Citi News, Pru District Police Commander ASP Bansa said “as at now, six children are dead and their bodies have been retrieved and deposited at the hospital at Yeji.”
He added that “search is still ongoing” to retrieve the remaining bodies.
Meanwhile, reports claim that the boat had about 60 people on board and they were traveling to Yeji with their foodstuff to trade in the area.
