Scores of people claiming to be supporters of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP ) in the Ashanti Region, have converged on the Regional Police Command to demand the immediate release of their Regional Chairman, Bernard Antwi Boasiako popularly known as Chairman Wontumi.
Chairman Wontumi is currently in cells after reporting himself to the Command following a case of assault leveled against him by the Member of Parliament for Manhyia North, Collins Amankwah.
Chairman Wontumi turned himself in to the Police after he was declared wanted.
Speaking to Citi News, some of the angry party supporters who besieged the Command, said their Chairman must be released.
Without any basis, some of the over 500 supporters alleged that the arrest was orchestrated by President Mahama and his brother Ibrahim Mahama.
According to them, the arrest has been orchestrated to deliberately take the party’s attention off the ongoing limited voters’ registration exercise.
Meanwhile, armed police and military men have taken centre stage at the Central Police station to maintain law and order.
