The Ashanti Regional Police Command has issued a notice for the arrest of Ashanti Regional Chairman of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Antwi Boasiako aka Chairman Wuntumi.
The notice follows allegations that he assaulted the MP for Manhyia North, Collins Owusu Amankwa and the Constituency Secretary for Manhyia North, Felix Ibrahim at Krofrom, Kumasi.
The alleged assault took place on the evening of May 1 at a registration centre in front of prospective voters who had queued to register in the ongoing limited voters’ registration exercise.
Collins Amankwa and Felix Ibrahim initially lodged a complaint with the police who subsequently invited Chairman Wuntumi for questioning to assist with police investigations.
The police in a statement signed by ASP Yusif Tanko, Public Relations Officer of the regional police command, however indicated that the NPP regional chairman refused to honor the invitation.
It is in this light that the Ashanti Regional CID has been given instructions to have chairman Wuntumi arrested to assist with investigations.
The police in their statement added that it will be in the chairman’s interest to report to the police and answer to the accusations of assault.
