The University of Ghana, Legon, is set to host other African Universities on “Globalization and Policy Direction for African Higher Education”.
The summit, which is in partnership with Times Higher Education, and slated for April 27-29, 2016, is to focus global attention on the developments in various African universities.
According to Vice Chancellor of the University of Ghana, Professor Ernest Aryeetey “the world does not know that many African institutions are going through a lot of change … becoming more and more global players; so through this summit, we expect to make people more aware of the developed opportunities for African universities”.
He said the summit would discuss the impact of globalization on higher education in Africa, with emphasis on access and other opportunities.
The summit is thus expected to bring together “some of the best known vice chancellors from the region to be here; to allow people to hear the African voice when it comes to higher education”, Prof Aryeetey said.

Meanwhile, the University of Ghana, has honoured three of its former vice chancellors.

Ivan Addae-Mensah was vice chancellor from 1996-2002. Professor George Benneh, vice chancellor from 1992 to1996, also had an intersection named after him.
These honours, according to the Vice Chancellor, Professor Ernest Aryeetey, are in recognition of their respective contributions to the development of the University of Ghana.
