The Trades Union Congress (TUC), is demanding justice for an employee of the Gateway Logistics Limited in Takoradi, who was chained to a container by his Italian supervisor, Manlio Maggiorotto.
Ibrahim Sanou was subjected to that punishment after he was accused by his employer of loitering around during working hours.
The TUC in a statement described the act as dehumanizing and ordered the Managing Director of the company, William Moss, to produce the supervisor who is said to have fled the country for fear of being prosecuted.

“For an employer to have the temerity in today’s Ghana to chain a Ghanaian worker for any reason whatsoever is unconscionable and we totally and outrightly condemn it. We cannot countenance such dehumanizing conduct in the world of work,” the TUC said.
The TUC made the following demands :
Mr. Moss, should as a matter of urgency, commit to work with the union to change the culture of oppression and silence he has supervised in the work environment and respect the collective bargaining institutions and other social dialogue processes at the workplace to ensure that this or other abominable acts do not recur.
The Ministry of Employment and Labour Relations and the Ghana Employers’ Association should join hands with labour to ensure the protection of workers’ rights and to guarantee that no employer will have the audacity to repeat this barbarous act in the country.
This incident follows a similar one that occurred at Peter Pan restaurant in Accra, where a Ghanaian supervisor was slapped with a piece of hot pizza by her Korean employer.
