The Ashanti Regional Communication Directorate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Solomon Anane, has charged the Regional Police Command to closely monitor the activities of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the region.
Speaking to Citi News on the attack on the NPP’s Baah Acheamfuor, Mr. Anane said the NDC is worried the party could use macho men to destabilize the region during the elections.
“The rapid manner in which those thugs were mobilized to storm the radio station, gives an indication that it’s a well-organized stand by force that has been prepared to cause mayhem in the region.”
[contextly_sidebar id=”WZjQoIwQ0j9XNjCuABRyX5J186uL04bJ”]Mr. Anane added that what happened on Monday cannot be considered an internal party matter since the macho men attacked anyone they came across in the studios of Kumasi-based Fox FM.
He called on the law enforcement agencies to apply the rules and bring the perpetrators to book in order to deter other people from doing the same irrespective of the political party they belong to.
Background
Baah Acheamfour, a youth activist of the NPP, believed to be loyal to the suspended NPP Chairman Paul Afoko, and failed flagbearer aspirant, Alan Kyeremanten, was on Monday afternoon assaulted by some macho men suspected to be members of the NPP, who broke into the studios of Kumasi-based Fox FM during a live discussion.
He was reportedly assaulted for making derogatory comments against the NPP flagbearer, Nana Akufo-Addo.
In the process, some workers of the radio station were also battered.
NPP communications Director arrested
Meanwhile the police in the Ashanti Region have arrested Kwesi Kyei, the party’s Ashanti Regional Communication’s Director as the mastermind behind the attack.
