The Accra Regional Command of the Ghana Police Service has warned the public to be careful when using certain roads in the capital because of criminal activities.
The roads include the Graphic Road (along the flyover), the Awudome Cemetery Road, and the Accra Mall Roundabout.

In a statement signed by ASP Effia Tenge, the Accra Regional Police Command said that the warning is based on empirical analysis of street crime.
“This caution is based on empirical analysis of street crime trends within the region where some miscreants deprive commuters of handy items and personal valuables such as mobile phones, purses, tablets, handbags and laptops at the least distraction or inattentiveness,” the statement said.
“Whilst the Police continue to embark on pragmatic steps including rush-hour duties, visibility patrols, motorbike patrols, intelligence-led operations, among others which for security reasons cannot be made public, to nip the situation in the bud, it is entreating the public to be extra vigilant when plying the above mentioned traffic prone areas.”
The police has therefore advised the public to observe the following precautions all the time:
- Conveniently roll up car windows when in traffic to prevent criminals from having access to personal valuables.
- Desist from displaying handy and electronic devices in vehicles.
- Be extra careful when approached by hawkers to sell items when in traffic.
- Be wary of strangers, especially ladies who approach you for free ride.
- Ensure that vehicle doors are locked up in the course of their journeys.
The Accra Regional Police Command has given the assurances to “rid the metropolis of such miscreants, however, it is calling on the public to be extra vigilant to avoid falling victim to criminals. The police emergency numbers, 191 and MTN/VODAFONE Toll Free Number 18555 in times of distress.”
