The General Transport and Petroleum Workers Union of the Trade Union Congress (TUC), are set to embark on a protest march in the Western Region, against the maltreatment of Ghanaian workers by expatriate employers.
The union’s decision follows an incident involving an Italian supervisor at Gateway Logistics Limited, Manlio Maggiorotto, who chained a Ghanaian employee to a container in the hot sun for failing to complete a task.
In another case reported by Citi News, a female Ghanaian supervisor of Peterpan Restaurant in Accra, was slapped with hot pizza by her Korean employer.

The General Secretary of the Union, Fuseini Iddrisu, told Citi News that the demonstration will involve all members of the Union, the TUC and other workers.
“The National Secretariat is thinking of taking what happened seriously and we are thinking of organizing a demonstration in the Western Region on that issue. The demonstration is going to involve others …In fact, the group that is going to demonstrate are members of our union and I think that TUC is also coming on board and then all the oil and gas workers will also join because it affects everybody”
The TUC in an earlier statement described the act as dehumanizing and ordered the Managing Director of the company, William Moss, to produce the supervisor who is said to have fled the country for fear of being prosecuted.
The TUC made the following demands in a statement released earlier
Mr. Moss, should as a matter of urgency, commit to work with the union to change the culture of oppression and silence he has supervised in the work environment and respect the collective bargaining institutions and other social dialogue processes at the workplace to ensure that this or other abominable acts do not recur.
The Ministry of Employment and Labour Relations and the Ghana Employers’ Association should join hands with labour to ensure the protection of workers’ rights and to guarantee that no employer will have the audacity to repeat this barbarous act in the country.
