President John Dramani Mahama has reiterated his government’s resolve to maintain a stable country before, during and after the November election.
Speaking at a special Akwasidae Festival held to mark the 17th anniversary of the reign of Otumfuo Osei Tutu II at Manhyia in the Ashanti Region on Sunday President Mahama said he would also ensure a peaceful coexistence among institutions in the country including chieftaincy.
“I wish to assure you that I will continue to work hard to sustain and enhance the peace and security and peaceful coexistence of our people and our institutions including the institution of Chieftaincy, before, during and after the elections on November 7.”
“I pledge to do all in my power to ensure a peaceful election which will once again consolidate Ghana’s credential as the most stable democracy in Africa,” he added.
The forecourt of the Manyia Palace was adorned as Chiefs, Government officials and people of Asanteman trooped in to celebrate the 17th year of the coronation of Otumfuo Osei Tutu II and also mark the Grand Akawsidae.
Over 400 years ago since the Asante Kingdom was established, Akwasidae has been celebrated in honor of the ancestors.
Otumfuo Osei tutu II clad in his rich kente cloth was carried in golden palanquin amidst singing and dancing. The Sika Dwa, the golden stool of the Asante Kingdom was put on display.
Otumfuo Osei Tutu II while addressing his sub-chiefs and all the people of Asanteman expressed joy in the support and love shown him.
He pledged to work for Asanteman and to do that which pleases the gods and the stool.
Otumfuo pledged his support to all governments in the ultimate interest of Ghana.
He advised the president, His Excellency John Dramani Mahama to see to the welfare of all Ghanaians.
The Asantehene also advised his Chiefs not to be partisan, but to make sure that all citizens are served and protected.
The colorful durbar was attended by the Minister for Water Resources Works & Housing, Kweku Agyeman Mensah, Metropolitan Chief Executive of Kumasi, Kojo Bonsu, MP for Manhyia North, Collins Owusu Amankwah, suspended National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party, Paul Afoko, Flagbearer of GCPP, Dr. Henry Lartey, Flagbearer of IPP, Kofi Akpaloo, Boxer Bukom Banku, and other officials.
