The New Patriotic Party in the Volta Region has accused President John Dramani Mahama of deliberately instigating inhabitants of the Volta Region against them in a desperate move to hold onto power.
At a press conference held in Ho on Wednesday to respond to statements made by the President during his recent visit to the chiefs and people of Anlo, the Regional Chairman of the NPP, John Peter Amewu, accused President John Mahama of playing the tribal card and erroneously attributing all development projects in the region to his NDC party to ostensibly set the region against the NPP.
“In his attempt to tout his achievements, the President erroneously submitted that his party (NDC) is responsible for all the massive projects that the region has witnessed since the inception of the fourth republic. He argued that the NPP has nothing to show in terms of development in the region, despite being in power for eight years from 2001 to 2009. He added that the people of the region must ignore NPP’s claim that NDC government had taken Voltarians for a ride. The President also said the NPP is doing everything possible to discourage the chiefs and people of the Anlo State and Volta Region in general from voting for the NDC come November 7, 2016.”

“Ghanaians know that the NPP has a good record in the Volta Region, and the people of the region will in deed attest to the countless projects and opportunities created for them by the NPP Government in 8 years, compared with the combined 16 years of NDC’s rule. Just within the Anlo State, where the president visited, 15 towns and villages received water extension schemes, notable among them, is the coastal belt water supply schemes at Adina, Blekusu, Amutinu and Glidzi-Afuta and Avloto.”
He also gave assurances that an NPP government under Nana Addo will construct a harbour for Keta and invest heavily in agriculture in the Volta Region with the provision of tax holidays to encourage investors to the region.
Former President Kufuor defends Volta record
Meanwhile former President John Agyekum Kufuor has rejected the President’s claims by putting forth his administration’s achievements in the region.
