Director Priscilla Ananay has picked up the award for the Best New Narrative Director at the Tribeca Film Festival for her breakthrough directorial debut, ‘Children of the Mountain’.
Filmed in Ghana and produced by I60 Productions, the film features heavy weight actors including AdjeteyAnang, Grace Omaboe (Maame Dokunu), Akofa Edjeani, William Addo (Akpatse) and Agbeko “Bex” Mortty amongst others.
According to the Jury at the Festival, “So many of the films we had the pleasure of viewing were expertly directed and worthy of recognition. The winning director presents a fearless and heart-wrenching tale of an embattled mother’s high stakes journey to heal her sick child and ultimately herself. The film delicately and powerfully directs us through an emotionally resonant story that is dark for truthful reasons and simultaneously hopeful.”
This award meant the screenings of the film were extended by three more sittings on the last day of the festival.
On her Facebook page, Priscilla said, Thanks to my family, Promedia, all cast especially Rukiyat Masud, and all my Ghanaian crew and post production team in Los Angeles and New York. Super Excited!”
We are looking forward to the whole country at home and in the diaspora coming out to support this uniquely African film.
