The Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) has warned against the trend where some private individuals and groups without any authority attempt to enforce the ban on drumming and noise making.
This year’s ban on drumming and noise making will commence from Monday, May 2 to Wednesday, June 2.
According to the AMA, there is already a taskforce in place to enforce the ban consisting of AMA personnel, the police service and representatives from the Traditional and Christian Councils.
In a statement, the AMA said, “Apart from the task force which consists of AMA personnel, the police service and representatives from the Traditional and Christian Councils, no other person or group of persons should be seen or found enforcing the abatement of noise in the metropolis.”
The AMA also urged citizens in Accra to abide the ban saying adherence to the guidelines of the ban would be “in the interest of peace, harmony and national security.”
They further entreated the Christian, Muslim and Traditional Authorities to show respect for one another and restrain their followers from making derogatory and inflammatory remarks about the beliefs of each other’s practices.
Below is the full AMA statement detailing the guidelines of the ban.
