Government has launched a migration policy aimed at tackling the complexity of migration patterns in Ghana.
The country has in recent years seen an increase in the complexity of migration pattern but with the launch of this policy, that problem will be resolved.
Speaking at a ceremony to launch the policy, the National coordinator of Returnees Integrated Development Organization (RIDEO), Alhassan Abdul Ganiy said “at the desperate times of smuggling of migrants for forced labour and sexual exploitation there is the need for effective policies on migration.”
“In the country efforts to curtail unauthorized migration off the young Ghanaian youth, reintegration is an essential part to encourage voluntary and discourage illegal migration,” he added.
RIDEO, was started from national security council cooperative society in the council efforts to reintegrate 35,000 young migrant workers who were repatriated during the Libya uprising in 2011.
The company has since registered over 95 cooperative groups of return migrant in their effort to reintegrate them in the Ghanaian society, to encourage voluntary return and advocate against illegal migration.
A speech delivered on behalf of the President said irregular migration has become a thorny issue which various countries are grappling with.”
He indicated that the policy will help deal with the situation.
