Black Stars coach Avram Grant says his team went for a win against Mozambique in yesterday’s AFCON 2017 qualifier but unfortunately, they could not get the desired result.
The Black Stars drew goalless away to Mozambique in Group H of the 2017 AFCON qualifiers and the result gave Ghana 10 points from four matches played and a win in the next match will send Ghana to the 2017 AFCON to be played in Gabon. Grant told journalists after the match that he prepared his team to get another win over Mozambique after the 3-1 win in Accra last Thursday.
“We created enough chances to win the match but we did not score and at the end of the day, we have 10 points. It depends on us to qualify. We played to win the game. We played almost like we did in Accra but we made some changes due to injuries to key players.
The new players showed a good fight but we could not get the victory.” Grant spoke highly of the Mozambican team and said the Mambas had good traits on the day.
“The Mozambicans are a good team and they have a lot of potential. They showed good tactical discipline and they closed our key men down. They were more careful in defence here than in Accra.”
The qualifiers resume in June when the Black Stars travel to Mauritius.
