The National Executive Committee of the United Progressive Party (UPP), has dismissed its Chairman and flagbearer, Akwesi Addai Odike.
The dismissal comes on the back of what the NEC says is gross disrespect for the party’s constitution on his part.
[contextly_sidebar id=”iSGIWHMhp5vExNVU6klrRDJwIilpvDyh”]Speaking to Citi News, Acting National Chairman of the party, Alhaji Bashiru Zakari, said the UPP has officially written to the Electoral Commission informing it of the decision.
He said Mr. Odike among other things “failed to call a meeting” after meeting with the party’s General secretary.
“He didn’t call a meeting and just called a few people and appointed his own son as acting General Secretary of the party. That’s the concern of the National Executive members. We had a meeting on Friday from all the regions in Kumasi. I chaired it and we have signatures of all the national executive committee members for Odike’s dismissal,” he explained.
He argued that the decision will not in any way affect the party.
Over a thousand delegates of the UPP in 2015 endorsed Akwasi Addai Odike as its first flagbearer for the 2016 elections.
Mr Odike, was also endorsed as the National Chairman of the party which received its final certificate of formation from the electoral Commission (EC) in the same year.
