An aide to the late former New Patriotic Party (NPP) Chairman, Jake Obetsebi Lamptey, has described his death as a real shock.
Bryan Acheampong, who is aspiring to become the Member of Parliament on the ticket of the NPP in the Abetifi Constituency, says the late Obetsebi Lamptey was hale and hearty just weeks before his death.

Speaking on the the Citi Breakfast Show, Brian Acheampong said he is still shocked because he had been speaking to his boss and even planned to visit him three weeks ago.
Bryn Acheampong said there were a number of times when he played “golf at the Achimota golf course and I have pictures of him post the chairmanship. There was nothing wrong with him.”
“He was traveling through the world; he went to South Africa, America, Canada and England. He went low because new officers had come, he had been serving the party for a long time and he needed a break himself…So he went low profile not because he was not well and that is why it was a shock to us, a big shock to me [as well,” he added.

Jake’s death must be NPP’s period of reflection
Former President John Agyekum Kufuor has expressed profound shock and sadness at the demise of Mr. Jake Otanka Obetsebi-Lamptey, former Chairman NPP saying “it must be a period of deep and sober reflection for all NPP members.”
A true pillar has fallen’
The NPP also described Jake as “a true son of the Nation” and further ordered party offices to fly half mast.
The party in a statement said “Mr. Obetsebi Lamptey did not only serve his party selflessly and diligently, but also helped in nation building.”
Jake’s death ‘hit us hard’
The governing National Democratic Congress (NDC), said the death of Obetsebi Lamptey hit them hard in the heart.
A statement signed by NDC’s General Secretary, Johnson Asiedu Nketia, eulogized Jake saying Ghana’s political history cannot be written without the mention of his name. “…We send out our heartfelt condolences to the immediate and extended families of the late former Chairman of the New Patriotic Party.” “We also commiserate with the NPP in this moment of grief.
