Some angry youth of the incumbent National Democratic Congress (NDC), in the Nkwanta South District of the Volta Region, have given a two-week ultimatum to the Regional Minister and party executives, to ensure the confirmation of the DCE nominee or face their wrath.
According to the group, although the President has appointed one Alfred Okanya to be the new DCE, his confirmation is being unduly delayed making it impossible for him to assume his position.
Assembly members in the area have blamed the Regional Minister for continually postponing the confirmation of the appointee.
On Wednesday afternoon, the aggrieved youth locked up the constituency office and burnt car tyres on some major streets of the town, to express their displeasure. According to them, the several petitions they forwarded to the Regional Minister Hellen Notso, have not been responded to.
They have thus given the Minister and the party a two-week deadline to confirm the President’s appointee.
The district has not had a substantive DCE for the past eighteen months since the demise of the former DCE Mr. Peter Kojo Kenyeso, who was shot dead at his home by unknown assailants, a situation the youth say has brought development to a standstill.
