The Vice Presidential Candidate of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) for the November polls, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, on Friday fulfilled his promise to the Kperisi Basic School in the Wa Municipality in the Upper West Region, when he presented 250 dual desks to the school.
Background
Dr. Bawumia, who visited the school last weekend after the plight of pupils studying on the bare floor were widely publicized, made a promise to present 500 desks to them.
But few days after his promise for which reason political opponents have criticized him for seeking to score cheap political points, the Wa Municipal Assembly and the Upper West Regional Minister, hurriedly intervened by providing some desks.

He however quoted the Headmistress of the school Rosina Die as saying that the desks were enough for the pupils.
Despite harsh criticisms of his action by political opponents, Dr. Bawumia made good of his promise today [Friday].
The NPP’s Parliamentary Candidate for the Wa Constituency, Issahaku Tahiru made the presentation to the school on behalf of Dr. Bawumia.
Those who received the dual desks of 250 which will automatically take 500 people included the Headmistress of the School, an executive of the School’s management committee, an executive of the school’s PTA, and the Landlord of the Kperisi Community.
School still needs furniture
The Landlord of the Kperisi Community, Bagilinye John, told Citi News the school would still have a need for the desks despite the initial presentation made by the Municipal.
According to him, the problem of lack of desks was not peculiar to the primary section, adding that the Junior High School section also has similar challenges.
He thus requested to the school to consider sending those desks to the JHS section.
Parents paying 10 cedis for furniture
According to him, the situation at the JHS section had become a concern for the school to the extent that parents have been asked to pay ten cedis for their wards to acquire desks.
Threats on Headmistress’ life
The Headmistress of the school, Rosina Die, earlier told Citi News that her life had been threatened after she allowed the plight of her school to be publicized.
