President John Mahama is promising Ghana’s collaboration with its West African neighbours to address security threats in the sub region.
Mahama, who was in Cote D’lvoire to commiserate with them over the terrorist attack that hit the country in March, advocated for strict border controls and activation of protocols on anti-terrorism as an effective measure of protecting citizens in the sub region.
[contextly_sidebar id=”tfXIOAKeMNup2QWJHEYJtcYGXMcCnNgM”]Last week, over fourteen people were killed in what Ivorian authorities described as a targeted attack on three hotels in the southeastern town which is about 40km east of the country’s capital, Abidjan.
Previous attacks in some countries within the sub-region have increased calls for vigilance to avert similar incidents in the future.
Mahama, after a closed door meeting with his Ivorian counterpart President Quattara called for collaboration between African countries to deal with security threats in the sub-region.
“…We have been discussing how we can commonly share intelligence and how we can still maintain our integration and let people move freely but at the same time make sure people who want to harm us and are coming across our borders we are able to identify who they are and prevent them from doing the evil that they want to inflict on our people.”
“It is a pity that this is happening at this time because we have been trying to integrate our economies and our people and create the opportunity for our people to move freely across our borders but when things like this happen, then it means you have to be more vigilant, you have to be scrutinizing people who are coming across the borders…”the President said.
