Woman ‘fugitive’ who poured acid on boyfriend nabbed

The Police have arrested Esther Enyonam Pekyi, the 26 year old lady who allegedly poured volumes of acid on her boyfriend, Eric Ohemeng in 2015.

Eric, who was a third year student at GIMPA has been battling for his life over the last seven months, following the horrific incident.

Esther was arrested at Dansoman at 9.15 on Saturday after a Citi News team provided intelligence leading to her arrest.

Visibly shocked after arrest

[contextly_sidebar id=”WwJDOmux4P78cWPqaqb44Wd26gCoWvak”]She was visibly shocked after her arrest and looked on helplessly as a team of undercover agents whisked her away.

She is currently at the Accra Regional Police Command pending further investigations.

Meanwhile, the Greater Accra Regional Commander, COP George Akuffo Dampare, will address the media on Monday on this arrest.

He will also use the opportunity to outline his programme to tackle the unlawful sale of acid on the market.

Background:

Esther Enyonam Pekyi allegedly poured acid on his boyfriend at Madina in Accra on June 25, 2015 and has been on the run for the past seven months.

She reportedly executed the act after Eric Ohemeng broke her heart.

Eric Ohemeng has been battling for his life out at the 37 Military Hospital.

Manhunt for Enyornam Pekyi

The Public Relations Officer of the Accra Regional Police Command ASP Effia Tenge had told Citi News that her outfit had intensified their search for the lady.

“This lady after pouring the acid on this gentleman bolted and the police have intensified their search for her. She poured acid on him and you  can see the severe bruises on his face and also some part of his body. For now, the victim is in a critical condition at the 37 Military Hospital,” she said.

GIMPA donation

The authorities of GIMPA after the incident, donated a cheque of GH10,000 to Eric Ohemeng for his medical bills.

The Dean of the Business School of GIMPA, Professor Samuel K. Bonsu in an interview with Citi News said,  “we are doing this to support Eric to make sure that he fully recovers and can join us in the shortest possible time.”

How Citi News aided investigations

Citi News had been following up on the whereabouts of the suspect after the Madina Divisional Police Command failed to arrest her after several tip offs.

Citi News, together with some friends of the victim Eric ohemeng and the Police spent several months looking for the suspect who was rumuored to be hiding in Togo, Aflao and Kasoa

Her arrest followed days of planning between Citi News and a team of Police detectives at the Accra regional Police Command, who were sanctioned by the Regional Commander to make the operation a priority

After days of planning between some of the victim’s colleagues at GIMPA and Citi News, the suspect set up a meeting with the victim at Dansoman.

The Citi News‘ team in the company of a team of undercover detectives, identified the suspect and arrested her when she got down from a taxi to meet Eric ohemeng.
