Some youth of the incumbent National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Northern Regional capital, Tamale, on Monday demonstrated against the appointment of Tanko Rashid as the Regional Coordinator of the Youth Employment Agency (YEA).

Tanko Rashid, who currently doubles as the NDC Northern Regional Treasurer and Director of Elections, is to replace Adam Mohammed Amin Abio.

The demonstrators submitted a petition at the Northern Regional Coordinating Council explaining why Tanko Rashid’s appointment should be revoked.

The group’s Deputy Secretary, Mohammed Weimah, in a Citi News interview said Tanko Rashid does not deserve the appointment.

“Tanko Rashid alias computer, was indicted in a report for embezzling money at the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) when he was the Regional Manager of the Scheme. Tanko Rashid also defrauded the NDC of over forty thousand Ghana cedis which was meant for party polling agents,” Weimah alleged.

Mohammed Weimah further accused Tanko Rashid of withdrawing salary as a teacher although he has not been teaching.

“Tanko Rashid computer continued to draw double salaries as a manager of the Northern Region NHIS and a as a teacher of the Tamale College of Education without teaching. If the President is indeed committed to fighting corruption in Ghana, we find it abhorrent to appoint him as the Northern Regional Director of YEA, considering his record as a serial fraudster. We also advice the appointing authority to revoke the appointment of Rashid Computer to save the YEA from being looted.”

The group recommended that the Northern Regional Deputy Coordinator of the Youth Employment Agency, Abdul Mumin, deserved to head the Agency.
