Price of tomato declines for third consecutive time

The price of tomato reduced again this week, the third in a row.

The price dropped by twelve percent to close the week at 7 cedis 70 pesewas per medium size tomato tin.

Prices of cowpea, groundnut and maize followed with a percentage drop each.

[contextly_sidebar id=”3FP3I7rQd4bL4HwwwK4TowOxOOzqp5MC”]This is the third time that the price of tomato has declined from about 15 percent since the third week in January.

However, checks by Esoko Ghana show that wheat gained 15 percent in price to close the week at 10 cedis 80 pesewas per medium sized tin.

Cassava, Yam, rice and millet also recorded gains in the prices for the first week in February.

On the various markets, a “medium size tomato tin” full of tomatoes lost 33 percent in Kumasi to close the week at 5 cedis 80 pesewas; in Techiman, it dropped by 21 percent to close the week at 7 cedis 90 pesewas.

Also, Tamale and Takoradi recorded 20 and 4 percent drop to sell at 7 cedis 20 pesewas and 10 cedis 80 pesewas respectively.

Meanwhile, a medium size tin of maize gained by 4 percent in Bawku to close the week at 3 cedis and dropped by 8 percent in Kumasi to close the week at 4 cedis70 pesewas.

The prices however remained same in the other markets.
