The Ministry of Health has screened residents of Awisa, a community in the Wenchi Municipality of the Brong Ahafo Region, in the wake of the outbreak of the meningitis disease.
The exercise, done with the help of government’s health van called ‘Onuador’ mobile clinic, was aimed at screening to check the outbreak of the deadly pneumococcal meningitis in the area to detect symptoms early.
Pneumococcal meningitis, which was first reported in the Brong Ahafo Region, has claimed nearly 40 lives in the last month.
The Minister of Health, Alex Segbefia during a visit to the area,also took time to be screened.
Onuador is a free health care policy by President John Mahama.
About 400 people have so far been screened.
The screening started on Tuesday and will continue for the next 4-days in the surrounding communities.
