The Ghana Education Service (GES), has pledged to support an initiative by Ambassador Extraordinaire of Prisons, Ibrahim Oppong Kwarteng, to sensitise pre-tertiary institutions across the country on the consequences of crime.
Mr. Kwarteng hopes to sensitize students through the showing of Prison documentaries in schools and the GES has committed to ensure his initiative is sustained.
Speaking during a courtesy call on him by the Prisons Ambassador, Director General of the GES, Jacob Kor, described the campaign as wonderful, said it was a good initiative that could significantly reduce the propensity for students to commit crimes.
Mr. Kor also expressed regret about the conduct of some teachers who set a bad example for their students by engaging in criminal activities, thereby making mockery of the teaching profession.
He noted with particular concern the growing number of students and teachers in prison as a result of examination malpractices and other forms of school related crimes, that have negatively affected the image of the GES.
He urged Mr. Kwarteng not to restrict his campaign to only the students, but also extend it to teachers for them to appreciate the real prison picture.
